Designations: The American Standard for Hot dip Galvanized Cold Rolled Materials A 653/A 653M-05 defines some drawing quality cold rolled hot dip galvanized steels with designations: FS Type A & FS Type B. FS stands for ‘ forming steel’.
The Chemical Composition:
FS Type A is composed of maximum 0.1 percent of Carbon, maximum 0.5 percent Manganese, maximum 0.02 percent Phosphorous, & maximum 0.035 percent Sulphur. Remaining is Iron with other impurities. Zinc is coated on this composition of base steel.
FS Type B is founded of carbon percentage range 0.02-0.10 percent, maximum 0.5 percent Manganese, maximum 0.02 percent Phosphorous, & maximum 0.035 percent Sulphur. Remaining is Iron with other impurities. Zinc is applied over this basic composition.
Mechanical Properties: American standard for hot dip galvanized steel unlike the Japanese standard defines the range of yield strength of the grades instead the tensile strength. The yield strength is bit more relevant physical parameter for drawing steels because the above steels are subjected to plastic processes and they are opted for drawing.
The yield strength ranges from 170 to 310 MPa of the above two material designations. The elongation of these materials is greater than or equal to 26 percent.
The equivalent materials are defined in JIS standard as SGCD1 steel and International standard is 02 drawing steel.
